Horus – Freeware Polyphonic Synthesizer VSTi Plugin By B.Serrano

Horus by B.Serrano.

B.Serrano has released Horus, a freeware virtual instrument for Windows which is a hybrid between a virtual analogue synthesizer and a polyphonic string machine.

Horus is something between a string-machine and a poly synth. It can generate impressive and inspirative pads. Full MIDI learn, 64 voices polyphonic.

Horus is available for free download via B.Serrano (2.2 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit VSTi plugin format for Windows, made with SynthEdit).

The layout of this virtual instrument is very similar to that of vintage string machines. Instead of the standard oscillator section, we have a string section with four saw waveform generators, one for each octave. Horus also features several built-in effect modules, covering chorus, phaser, delay, and auto-wah effects. Adding to that, the instrument features 64-note polyphony and supports MIDI learn.

Generally speaking, Horus is a very good tool for generating old school string ensemble sounds and huge analog pads. It reminds me a little of my old Korg Delta, which I had to sell, unfortunately. It still remains one of my favorite instruments and you can hear some of its sounds in our free BPB Mini Analogue Collection sample pack.

Speaking of the Delta, if you’re a fan of old string machine instruments you should also check out the recently released Nabla virtual instrument by Full Bucked Music. In pretty much nails the functionality of the good old Delta and comes incredibly close to the original instrument in terms of sound.
