SampleScience Releases Free TR-626 HD Sample Pack

SampleScience has announced the release of TR-626 HD, a free collection of Roland TR-626 drum machine samples.

If you’re asking yourself why would I want to download a Roland TR-626 sample pack, you are not alone. I asked myself the same when I saw the announcement on SampleScience’s website.

The good old TR-626 is not nearly as sought after as Roland’s legendary TR-808 and TR-909 drum machines, nor is it a particularly rare instrument. It is essentially a digital version of Roland’s budget friendly (at the time) TR-606 drum machine, and digital drum machines are generally regarded as quite a bit less interesting than their analog counterparts (with several notable exceptions such as the Linndrum and Oberheim DX).

However, SampleScience made this particular sample pack stand out as one of the most high quality TR-626 sample packs around, and definitely the best sounding one that can be downloaded for free (hence the HD in the product’s name). They’ve sampled each TR-626 drum hit in high definition and provided the entire set in three different bit rates (16-bit, 24-bit and 32-bit). Of course, being that the TR-626 is a digital drum machine, capturing round robins wouldn’t make much sense for this particular sample pack.

The pack contains 90 drum hits in total (three versions per drum hit), all clearly labeled and sorted into folders by bit rate. You’ll get two kick drums, three snares, six toms, and a selection of cymbals and percussive hits. The pack can be downloaded completely free of charge from the product page linked below, with optional donations (pay what you want).

TR-626 HD is available for free download via SampleScience (4 MB download size, ZIP archive, contains 90 drum samples in 16-bit, 24-bit & 32-bit WAV format).

Uh, the TR-626 is actually a budget version of the TR-707, not the TR-606. It’s basically the same as the TR-505, except with a few different sounds, and from what i’ve read it has more functionality. It’s not really similar to the TR-606 at all, since the TR-606 uses analogue sound generation, and it’s sounds are editable, whereas the TR-626 uses sampling, which won’t allow the sounds to be changed.
