Free Regressif Lo-Fi VST/AU Plugin Released By Inear Display

Inear Display has released Regressif, a free lo-fi audio effect in VST and AU plugin formats for PC and Mac based host applications.

Regressif is a multi-effect plugin which combines multi-mode filter, distortion, bitcrushing and sample rate reduction in one versatile sound degradation tool. In terms of functionality and design, it reminds me quite a lot of the excellent Krush plugin by Tritik which ranked as the #1 virtual effect released in 2016 on our list. The two plugins share very similar feature sets, although Regressif comes with one extra LFO module.

Another thing that sets these two otherwise rather similar plugins apart is the modulation aspect. Whereas Regressif features cool modular synth-like virtual cables, Krush comes with modulation amount knobs for each parameter. Obviously, it’s completely up to each individual user to decide which modulation system works best for them. One big advantage that Krush has over Regressif is the resizable user interface which will work equally well across screens of all shapes and sizes. The fixed-size 640×400 GUI found Regressif is definitely too small by today’s standards, especially if you’re using an HD monitor.

Other than that, Regressif is a versatile and fun to use audio degradation effect that is definitely among the best on the freeware market. If you like using bitcrushers and digital distortion effects, my suggestion is to download both Krush and Regressif and decide which one you’d like to keep in your plugin arsenal. Krush features a resizable user interface and a slightly different modulation architecture, while Regressif offers an additional LFO module and parameter randomization which is always nice to have at your disposal. Both plugins are completely free to use and compatible with Windows and Mac OS based digital audio workstations.

Regressif is available for free download via Inear Display (2.43 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AU plugin formats for Windows & Mac OS).
