Boscomac has released The Chiller, a free NI Reaktor ensemble which is inspired by the sound and functionality of the ARP Omni vintage analogue synthesizer.
THE CHILLER is an omni-synthesizer which includes a bass section, synth section and a string section. The instrument delivers a sound cold, reminiscent of the eighties and the new wave.
The Chiller is available for free download via Boscomac’s website (249 kB download size, contains 1 instrument in ENS format for Native Instruments Reaktor).
The instrument is inspired by the sounds of the ARP Omni vintage synth. It is not (nor is it intended to be) a perfect emulation of the original hardware instrument, but it comes pretty close in terms of functionality, layout, and overall sound.
The sound engine consists of three sections: Bass, Synthesizer, and String section. They can be mixed together and tweaked separately in order to achieve different sound timbres.
The Chiller also features a built-in reverb effect in the mixer section. The Synthesizer section comes with chorus and phaser modules, as well as vibrato mode.
I’m a big fan of old instruments, and this virtual synthesizer reminds me of an old string ensemble by Yamaha (the Yamaha SK15 to be precise) which I sold a while ago and regretted doing so ever since. I’ll give The Chiller a go to see if it can bring back some of that nostalgia.
If you’re a Reaktor user, make sure you take a look at the rest of freebies offered by Boscomac. They are awesome, amazing stuff, well designed and great sounding. You’ll have a blast using them!
