OCD DSP has released Virtue, a freeware compressor effect in VST plugin format for Windows which models several envelope styles.
Virtue is an advanced compressor unit designed for one thing, ultimate control. With this compressor look no further. I have build this compressor for my production work, I hope you find it useful and creatively inspiring.
Virtue is available for free download via OCD DSP (6.0 MB download size, 7Z archive, 32-bit & 64-bit VST plugin format for Windows, made with SynthMaker).
This plugin was designed as a versatile dynamic range compressor, which is suitable for use on different kinds of audio material. It features three different volume envelope profiles, making it possible to emulate FET, VCA, and Opto compressors.
Virtue also features internal sidechain filters and (unlike most software compressors out there) uses faders instead of knobs. According to the developer, faders are used in order to ensure higher precision while working with the effect. I must admit that I like this approach.
A user manual for Virtue compressor should be released soon. The plugin is tested and properly working with the RTAS adapter by FXpansion.
