Magnetic Fields – Free Collection Of Atmospheric Soundscapes By The Unfinished

99Sounds has released Magnetic Fields, an impressive free collection of atmospheric soundscapes and sci-fi sound effects crafted by The Unfinished.

I’ve been a fan of The Unfinished’s sound design work for years (many of his freebies were previously mentioned on BPB) and it’s quite an honor to have some of his sounds available for download on 99Sounds. I was also happy to do a short interview with The Unfinished, which you can read in the Artist Spotlight section on 99Sounds.

Magnetic Fields is a unique collection of noisy soundscapes a sci-fi sound effects which were built from a variety of found sounds and processed with different NI Reaktor effects. The included samples are perfect candidates for use in horror and sci-fi projects, or as audio material for further sound mangling and manipulation. The samples are royalty free for use in commercial and non-commercial music projects (please note that you can’t use these sounds as the building blocks for another sample library).

The download pack also includes a set of instrument mappings in NKI (for NI Kontakt 5) and SFZ (for any compatible instrument such as Shortcircuit 1 or sforzando) format, which feature all of the included samples mapped across the keyboard. When used this way, the library basically works as a soundscape generator and I’m sure you’ll have tons of fun exploring the different noises produced by Magnetic Fields.

Although most of the included sounds are atonal (or they don’t have a stable pitch), I’ve managed to build several “melodic” instrument patches which are located in the BONUS PATCHES folder. These can be played as standard leads or pads, although they’re quite wild in nature and this leads to some really cool “organic” sounding melodies and harmonies.
