In celebration of their first anniversary, Karoryfer Samples have released Pastabass, a free Squier Bass VI electric bass guitar sample library with custom SFZ mappings for Plogue Sforzando.
This is the biggest Karoryfer Samples release to date, containing 766 WAV samples in total and four different string/articulation combinations. The articulations are delivered with up to four round robin variations and velocity layers per sampled note. SFZ patches are also included for each articulation, along with a combo patch (with several layered articulations) which sounds somewhat similar to a synthesized electronic bass. Version 1.809 of Plogue Sforzando is required in order to use the custom script with on-screen controls, however the basic mappings should work in any SFZ compatible instrument.

The Squier Bass VI electric bass guitar (which was sampled for Pastabass) is an unusual six-string bass from the 1960s. It is more similar to a baritone guitar than a standard bass guitar by today’s standards, having six strings and a tuning which is simply one octave below a standard guitar. Either way, it is a very cool instrument for sampling and I’m not aware of any similar sample libraries out there, free or commercial. Karoryfer Sampes have done a great sampling job once again, so there’s no reason for you not to grab this one if you liked their previous bass guitar sample packs such as Meatbass and Growlybass.
In addition to Pastabass, they’ve also released a free EDM sample pack called Spaceship Kitchen. The pack was created by Nathan Sheeran, who mixed various synthesized and recorded sounds into a rather interesting collection of percussive and SFX hits for use in electronic music. The pack contains 119 samples in total, covering electronic kicks, percussion, risers and similar sounds.
Like all other Karoryfer sample libraries, these packs are released under the CC Attribution 3.0 Unported license, meaning that you’re free to share and edit these sounds in your free and commercial work.
