FMetal – Freeware Metallic FM Bass Synthesizer VSTi Plugin By Hinton & Fairchild

After bringing us BIGROOMKIXSYNTH last month, the development team at Hinton & Fairchild has now released the FMetal virtual synthesizer designed for generating aggressive electro / dubstep bass sounds (the plugin is available for direct free download via BPB).

FMetal is a deceptively simple, but powerful VSTi for creating all kinds of usable metal Synth sounds, as featured in many Bigroom House Drops, Progressive, Jackin’, Electro and Dubstep. Its Completely free and is the ideal “no frills” Metal Synth.

The plugin is super easy to use, yet it’s capable of generating a wide palette of modern electronic bass sounds which you can hear in most dubstep and electro tunes nowadays. If you don’t own FM8 or Massive and if you’re looking for a freeware tool for generating this particular type of bass sounds, then FMetal is certainly a must try.

FMetal features three oscillators with the addition of a sub oscillator, whereas the engine supports frequency modulation, phase modulation and amplitude modulation synthesis. My favorite part of the plugin is the absolutely nasty morphing wave-table generator which generates all sorts of different aggressive timbres as you tweak a single knob.

Other features include a standard low-pass filter section with a built-in step sequencer and a pair of classic ADSR envelopes for amplitude and filter control. The plugin also includes a handy effects section with distortion, reverb and a stereo width expander. The factory library includes over 140 presets, covering a wide variety of bass sounds.

On a related note, the generous developers at Hinton & Fairchild have also updated their BIGROOMKIXSYNTH kick drum synthesizer. The new version of the plugin introduces a velocity to volume switch, randomization for the Noise/Hat X knobs, as well as an additional control to bypass the master compressor.
