Karoryfer has announced the release of Emilyguitar, a free SFZ format sample library featuring the sounds of an Epiphone Emily The Strange electric guitar.
The guitar sampled is an Epiphone Emily the Strange model strung with thick flatwound strings. It’s basically an inexpensive SG, but a really cute one.
After releasing several incredibly cool bass guitar sample libraries in the past couple of months (here’s one of them), it seems that Karoryfer could be shifting the focus to electric guitars. This latest release features a very nice set of electric guitar samples, paired up with a nifty collection of SFZ patches.
In Karoryfer’s own words, this sample library is aimed for people who don’t really produce guitar music, meaning that they didn’t go too much into detail with different articulations and hand positions. Instead, they’ve created a nice no frills collection of guitar sounds, perfectly suitable for guitar melodies and rhythms which you’d expect to hear in electronic or hip hop music.

Karoryfer has sampled each minor third note with four velocity layers and three round robin variations per note, adding up to 323 individual samples in 24-bit WAV format. A handy collection of various percussive noises is also included (muted strings and finger noises), with five round robin variations per sample.
The SFZ mappings is where this library really shines though, featuring five individual patches with unique settings. The Basic patch is just a standard mapping featuring one sample per note, while the other four mappings offer a variety of note combinations for different playing styles. The coolest one is definitely the Wide Chords mapping which a set of guitar chords with individual notes spread across the stereo spectrum.
The samples have been recorded directly, so you’ll get more realistic sounding results if you process them with a virtual guitar amplifier. You’ll also need an instrument capable of loading SFZ patches and sforzando is a good freeware choice in that category.
