Continuing their ongoing 12 Days of Christmas promo, Sonokinetic are giving away (for a limited time only) unlimited free copies of Cuica, a high quality Brazilian percussion sample collection for Native Instruments Kontakt.
Cuica (also know as kuweeca) is a very weird sounding percussion instrument from Brazil. It’s hard to describe what a cuica sounds like, but let’s just say that its sound is something that we’d expect to hear in a jungle, late at night. And we’d be absolutely terrified to hear it.
Anyways, Sonokinetic has sampled two versions of the instrument, a bass cuica and a soprano cuica, and converted the samples into a very well made virtual instrument for NI Kontakt. Similar to the previously released berimbau freebie (which is no longer free to download, sadly), the instrument features a 3-band equalizer, a simple microphone level mixer and a built-in reverb effect. The samples are included in NCW format, which means that you’ll need the full version of Kontakt in order to use them (the library will time out after fifteen minutes in the free Kontakt Player version).
This is a time limited offer which is set to expire in twelve hours at the time of writing this article. You don’t need to register for a Sonokinetic user account, or anything like that. The library is offered as a direct free download for everyone interested. Once again, many thanks to our reader Jason for letting us know about this really cool freebie!
