Get Adobe Audition 3.0 For Free! (False Alarm, Sorry Guys…)

Adobe Audition 3.0 is now free!

Adobe Audition 3.0 is now free!

Adobe is giving away the complete Creative Suite 2 (released in April 2005), which includes the Adobe Audition 3.0 audio editor.

Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit Pro) is a digital audio workstation from Adobe Systems featuring both a multitrack, non-destructive mix/edit environment and a destructive-approach waveform editing view.

UPDATE #1: Don’t be fooled by the error message on the page. Just follow the instructions below, and you’re all set!

UPDATE #2: For anyone asking themselves if this is legit, fear not! Here’s a reply from an Adobe official: “We are aware that the software is available for all users with an Adobe ID. Please keep in mind that due to the age of these software titles it is likely that they will not function properly on modern operating systems.” (link)

UPDATE #3: Unfortunately, the offer is only available for the users who have previously purchased CS2. Here’s the official reply, submitted by an Adobe representative. Sorry for the confusion everyone! Let’s wait for a press release from Adobe and see what happens.

UPDATE #4: The downloads are now back up, but so is this press release by Adobe (which pretty much explains it all). Apparently, everyone can download and install this for free, but it’s only legal for CS2 license owners to use the software.

Now, create a free Adobe account (or sign in with your old Adobe ID) and you’ll be forwarded to the page which contains the Adobe Audition 3.0 download link and your free serial number.

That’s it! Once you’ve installed the software, you can register it to your Adobe account. I’ve tested Adobe Audition 3.0 on my machine, and it really is a great audio editor (it also supports VST plugins!).

Many thanks to Adobe for releasing their old software for free. Please note that you can download the rest of the Creative Suite 2 from the same page (including Photoshop CS 2 and Premiere Pro 2!).

the word about this has spread really fast, it might be a temporary issue with Adobe servers. try it a couple more times, perhaps you’ll manage to create an account.

  2. I was a HUGE CoolEdit96 fan, so this is awesome!!! It took a while to get through to the download page because the server is overloaded, but I was able to start the download…4.24GB is taking a sweet forever, but really awesome!

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Yeah, here too. I just realized that Audition is in fact that great little shareware program that I used back in the days. Awesome how things come around.

i’m having the same error, although i still believe it’s simply server overload that’s causing it.

  3. Memories! Cool Edit Pro (pirated) was the first tool I recorded and edited music with on my PC. When I started to work with Cubase (pirated) later it felt really clumsy because I was so used to CEP. I remember exporting stuff from C to edit it in CEP. Now I’m very used to Cubase, so I probably don’t need this download anymore. But I’m gonna give it a try anyways. All software on my computer is all payed for and legal now btw.

  4. “On behalf of Adobe Systems Incorporated…Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!” Oops…
So everyone ran with the story of “Adobe releases Creative Suite 2 for free” Unfortunately, no one bothered to contact/ask Adobe about that…

They have since responded on their forums with the above and “What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2…You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!”

  5. The Telenator

Haha! Yeah, go cross out the rest of it!

Too late, the s***w-up, if that’s what it likely was is gone, gone, gone.

I firmly belief Adobe lied in their cover-up response.

No worries, this was just old rubbish anyway!

Better off with out Adobe, all of us!

  6. How very strange! So working downloads and serials are available freely (notice I didn’t say free) to anyone but they expect only CS2 users to use them? Yeah, I’m sure that plan will work…

  7. Apparently you need yet another update above. Adobe has removed all links, support, etc., etc., for all CS2 apps, which includes Audition 3. If you search really hard, you can still find it (using, for example), but good luck actually activating it.
