Chokehold has released Black Noh Snare, a freeware snare instrument featuring samples suitable for use in heavy metal music.
A sampled snare drum with 9 velocity layers, every velocity layer has 8 random-robin samples. And there’s a subkick.
Black Noh Snare is available for free download via Chokehold’s official website (15.2MB download size, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AU plugin format for Windows & Mac).
The samples are mapped to D2, so all you need to do in order to play the samples is to load the plugin in your DAW and trigger the appropriate MIDI note. The interface allows us to mix variable amounts of the top and bottom mics and beef up the sound using the Punch knob.
Chokehold has released a series of GREAT freebies in the past couple of months (type Chokehold in the search bar in the upper right corner to find them all). He’s doing a fantastic job sampling this stuff and his GUIs look absolutely awesome. Major kudos to this guy!

onI like the concept of this one. As guitar player you always want to touch and move the mics but I guess that’s not necessary here. Sounds nice, I like punch:)
