Benniy C. Bascom has released Polyrhythmus, a unique freeware polyrhythmic pattern generator and arpeggiator built with Max for Live.

Polyrhythmus is a rhythm sequencer, arpeggio builder, cc and parameter automator and mathematical geek. build polyrhythmic (counterpoint, polymetric etc) patterns, use them (live) as arpeggiators and/or to sequence drums, CCs, parameters of your live etc.

It’s a bit hard to describe all the different things which can be done with this M4L device, so perhaps the best way to figure it out is to watch the demo video which is embedded below. In short, Polyrhythmus is a sequencer/arpeggiator device which is capable of playing several polyrhythmic patterns at the same time.

You can use it to build complex polyrhythmic percussion sequences or arpeggios, as well as to send out MIDI CC messages to virtual instruments or external devices. Parameter randomization is also supported, potentially leading to hours of fun and experimentation with random sequences triggering various instruments.

If you’re new to polyrhythms, you should definitely check out the demo video for Polyrhythmus also features a nice introduction to polyrhythms and explains the difference between polyrhythmic and polymetric sequences. It’s also a great watch to get you started with setting up the device and using all the different modes and parameters.

Please note that you’ll need Max for Live and Ableton Live in order to use this epic device. The developer is also planning to release a standalone version in the future. Thanks to @peterkirn for spotting this one!
