Genobazz R is a monophonic bass synthesizer in VSTi plugin format for Windows based host applications. Its developer Tek’it Audio has announced that the instrument is now available as a free download on their Facebook page.
This free instrument is capable of producing some really nice and deep sub bass sounds, although I have to say that I’ve been getting some weird occasional clicks with it in MuLab Free. I’m not sure how it performs in other host applications and it’s quite possible that you won’t be having this issue.
The plugin was made with SynthEdit, so you’ll need a 32-bit Windows machine in order to run it. I’ve also noticed that some of the factory patches are not in tune. Not really sure what’s causing the problem there, though (the issue might be caused by some sample rate issues perhaps).
What I really liked about Genobazz R was the fat low end which its capable of producing (this is mostly due to the added sub boost functionality which does a really fine job) and the handy modulation knob which makes it easy to transform the sound in real time. That’s a very nice feature to have if you’re like me and you use the modulation wheel on your MIDI controller a lot while playing.
The instrument also includes eight different filter types and experimenting with these is lots of fun! The plugin can also produce some pretty neat aggressive bass sounds if you add some gain with the drive knob.
To sum it up, if you’re a fan of monophonic synthesizers optimized for producing bass sounds, this one is certainly worth a look. I will probably keep it as a secret weapon for sub bass patches, if I figure out what’s causing the occasional clicks in MuLab Free.
