HOFA Plugins has released an updated version of their freeware HOFA 4U Meter, Fader & MS-Pan gain metering and panning utility in VST/AU/RTAS/AAX plugin formats for Windows and Mac OS X.
HOFA 4U Meter, Fader & MS-Pan is undoubtedly a rather useful mixing and metering utility, especially if your DAW application of choice is lacking in terms of having a powerful native channel strip. This free 3-in-1 mixing tool from HOFA Plugins features EBU R128 and peak metering (in the latest version, you can actually drag and drop audio files which you’d like to analyze), a volume fader and a nifty dual panner module which can also be used to expand the stereo image of the processed audio track.
If you don’t need gain metering features, you can turn the meter off completely in order to preserve CPU and turn the plugin into a simple gain/pan controller utility with minimum impact on the overall performance of your digital audio workstation.
HOFA Plugins are offering two other freeware utilities on their site, both of which are featured on the product page linked below. The first utility called HOFA 4U ProjectTime is a tool for tracking the time spent on a certain project in your DAW, which can be useful for optimizing your workflow, or charging your clients for your mixing and mastering work. The other utility called HOFA 4U Goniometer & Korrelator is a rather well designed goniometer and correlation meter with peak, hold and energy-indicators.
To download and install your free copy of the 4U Meter, Fader & MS-Pan plugin, you will first need to install the HOFA-Plugins Manager which is a whopping 479 MB download. It’s completely free to download and install, but such a huge installer might be a bit of an overkill for a simple freeware utility such as the 4U Meter, Fader & MS-Pan plugin and other HOFA Plugins freebies. On the bright side, you can choose to download the offline installer, in case your DAW isn’t connected to the web.
