Kuassa Releases Free Efektor Silencer Noise Gate VST/AU/AAX Plugin

1

Kuassa has announced the release of Efektor Silencer, a freeware noise gate effect in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats for Windows and Mac OS.

Mainly known as a virtual guitar amplification and effects developer, Kuassa has unveiled a new series of virtual guitar pedals as the first release in their new “Efektor” plugin series. The new “Efektor Distortion” series of pedals includes the DS3603 Distortion, FZ3603 Fuzz, and OD3603 Overdrive. The developer has also released a freeware gating plugin, the “Effektor Silencer” which is an improved version of the gate effect which was included with all Kuassa Amplification products.

All of the “Efektor Distortion” plug-ins feature a simple control layout with three knobs controlling the various parameters, and a fourth knob to control the dry/wet signal mix. Although these effects are targeted predominantly at guitarists, there would be nothing that would prevent you from using them on a synth or a drum track to add some grit or fuzz to your audio. After all, keyboard players often use real guitar pedals for processing their hardware instruments like electric pianos and synthesizers.

The free “Efektor Silencer” plugin is a simple gating plugin that features three knobs controlling threshold, attack and release parameters as well as a handy “Dual mono” mode. Of course, it also comes with the always present bypass switch. Due to its simple and intuitive layout, Efektor Silencer could work as an interesting substitute for your DAW’s native noise gate, although it doesn’t offer any additional functionality.

Kuassa is offering the Overdrive, Fuzz, and Distortion units at an introductory price of $19 per plugin, or you can choose to buy them in a bundle that includes all three pedals for $45, which is excellent value. The plug-ins are available as VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugins for 32-bit and 64-bit hosts, as well as Rack Extensions for Propellerheads Reason. The plugin versions can be bought and downloaded directly from Kuassa’s website, whereas the Rack Extensions need to be downloaded from the Propellerhead Shop.

Efektor Silencer is available for free download via Kuassa (4.1 MB download size, EXE installer, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/VST3/AU/AAX plug-in formats for Windows & Mac OS).

  1. It’s a nice gate. I dig the dual mono functionality and wonder why more gates don’t have it? I guess it could result in an stereo center imbalance issues in some cases, but for example on a group with different guitars panned hard left and right it seems mighty useful. I stuck it on my background vocals buss template because i was actually looking for a gate for such purpose and this tested out to be perfect.
