Goldbaby has released DecoClapTrap, a free sample pack featuring the sounds of the Simmons Clap Trap drum machine recorded through the Strymon Deco saturation and double-tracking pedal.
A free sample pack from Hugo Tichborne aka Goldbaby, the legendary drum sampling enthusiast from New Zealand, is always a reason to celebrate. This time around, it’s a lovely little set of clap samples captured from the Clap Trap vintage analog drum machine by Simmons. The source audio was passed through the Strymon Deco pedal to fatten up the sound.
DecoClapTrap contains 26 samples in total, provided in 24-bit WAV format. The included samples vary in pitch and length, ranging from short percussive claps to super-long clap sounds which are perfect for layering on top of a kick or a snare drum. The increased stereo width and added harmonics, courtesy of the Strymon Deco pedal, are a perfect fit for the signature Clap Trap sound. The resulting clap samples sound unmistakeably vintage while packing enough punch and interest to blend nicely with modern electronic music mixes without requiring too much (if any) additional processing. The pack can be downloaded completely free of charge (no registration required) from the product page linked at the bottom of this article.
Apart from the free DecoClapTrap sample pack, Goldbaby has also released Gold Digger – Syntastic Vol 1 ($29), a collection of 93 audio loops and 199 one-shot synth samples with a classic vinyl vibe. Most of the included sounds were actually pressed to vinyl to capture its authentic flavor. However, whereas sampling audio from old vinyl records can result in copyright issues, the sounds included in Gold Digger – Syntastic Vol 1 were built from scratch and are royalty-free.
