RS-MET Releases “ToolChain” FREE Multi-Functional VST/AU Plugin

RS-MET has announced the release of ToolChain, a freeware multi-functional tool in VST and AU plugin formats for 64-bit digital audio workstations on PC and Mac.

ToolChain represents an all-in-one collection of RS-MET’s previously released plugins, including their virtual instruments and effects. The different effects can be connected together to create a complex multi-FX unit for processing external audio or used to process one of ToolChain’s two built-in synthesizers (AcidDevil and Straightliner).

The available devices are sorted into four categories (Instruments, Effects, Filters, and Analyzers). The current toolset includes two synthesizers, two filter/EQ devices, one distortion effect (FuncShaper), one advanced delay effect (EchoLab), and three analyzers. The devices can be loaded into slots which are listed on the left-hand side of the user interface. The GUI of the selected device is shown on the right. The active FX chain can be stored as a preset for later use. Presets of individual devices can also be stored locally.

RS-MET’s plugins have always featured a simple look which I tend to like. The GUIs don’t look fancy but they’re functional and easy to grasp. ToolChain’s user interface is fully resizable and the color scheme can be customised from Setup menu (click the button in the upper-left angle to show the menu). The functionality of the included devices remains the same as in their standalone counterparts. The only difference is the ToolChain will work in 64-bit plugin hosts only.

ToolChain is available for free download via RS-MET (9.58 MB download size, ZIP archive, 64-bit VST/AU plugin format for Windows & macOS).

  1. This is the most complex instrument/plugin released in 2017 along with Fathom Mono. The possibilities with the straightliner thing is just marvelous!

  2. Absolutely stunning concept to chain a small plugins in one plugin. Now I have a small meter system, multi-filter, synth and a combinations. In the future I expect the rest plugins to chain f.e. pitch shifter crossover etc.

  3. Thanks RS-MET! Had fun playing with Acid Devil which was new to me. Sounds very good. One question: are all synths/effects free or some are demo? Asking because included Straightliner looks exactly as separate commercial vsti. Couldn’t find any info about Acid Devil

  4. Well done Robin! The one thing that always rubbed me the wrong way is the lack of support for automation; other than that, a big fan of RS-MET plugins. EngineersFilter alone has made its way onto just about everything- when you need an iron high-pass that doesn’t leak, you can’t do better.

    • re: automation: There are ten ‘meta’ parameters that are visible to the host that controls can be assigned to (right click), the problem is they’re not available in all devices. AcidDevil and FuncShaper have them, not sure any of the others do. Would be great if they eventually they all get this functionality as this is a great sounding tool.

  5. Anyone know how to load waveforms in Straightliner or how to load a preset for any of the plugins? It won’t work because the RS-MET folder that was supposed to be extracted to C: Users/ (username) / AppData / Roaming is hidden. I cant access that folder.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  6. WOW! This is absolutely mindblowing! Outstanding concept and plugin! Straightliner and Echolab together form an exceptional sounding instrument! Thank You very much Sir Robin Schmidt! <3 <3 <3
