INTERNET Co. has announced the release of MS EQ COMP, a freeware mid-side equalizer and compressor effect in VST plugin format for digital audio workstations on PC and Mac.
MS EQ COMP is one of the more advanced mid-side processing tools on the free VST plugin market. Apart from providing the basic volume control and metering of the mid and side channels, it also features a pair of 3-band linear equalizers and compressors. The release comes from INTERNET Co., the company behind the SOUND IT! Pro audio editing and mastering suite so it’s no surprise that MS EQ COMP is a quality piece of software.

The control layout is intuitive and logical, making it easy to grasp the signal flow and the functionality behind each control parameter. The mid and side channel controls can be linked in case you want to use the plugin as a standard stereo compressor or EQ. Likewise, the EQ and compressor modules on both channels can be bypassed individually to save CPU when not in use. The user can monitor and adjust the input and output gain on both channels separately. The plugin also features a built-in preset manager and a global bypass switch.
Useful both as a mastering and a mixing tool, MS EQ COMP is certainly worth adding to your plugin collection. The only drawback I’ve found is that it requires the installation of INTERNET Co.’s authorization manager software (called InActivateCenter) which might put off users who don’t like bogging down their computers with third-party apps. I personally haven’t had any issues with the authorization manager, but it’s up to you to decide whether you’ll want to install it or not. The authorization procedure is relatively simple. After installing the plugin, you must sign in using your INTERNET Co. user account credentials and enter your personal product key (which you’ll previously need to activate on INTERNET Co.’s official website).
