FREE Video Game VST/AU Plugins Released By Klevgränd

Klevgränd has announced the release of DAW Games, a collection of three freeware video games in VST and AU plugin formats for digital audio workstations on PC and Mac.

If you have a hard time finishing your music projects, Klevgränd’s new DAW Games plugin suite is here to make things worse. It is a collection of three old-school video games which run inside your digital audio workstation of choice. They don’t produce any sound, nor do they modify the audio signal on the input. But they aren’t completely unaffected by the sounds coming from your DAW.

Two of the three included games will use the incoming audio signal to generate the level in real time. In the case of FFTFight, the audio volume corresponds to the number of falling blocks which must be avoided in order to survive. Likewise, FlappyMix (a clone of Flappy Bird) will generate the terrain borders based on the audio input. Things get pretty hectic when a game is loaded on the master bus and the loudest part of your song kicks in. If the master bus happens to clip, the games will generate an obsticle which can’t be avoided no matter how good your hand-eye coordination is.

The third game is called Kletris and it is Klevgränd’s plugin version of the legendary Tetris. Unlike the first two games, Kletris doesn’t seem to react to audio. Still, it’s a very decent Tetris clone which will remind you how insanely good the original actually is. Kletris is also the only DAW Games plugin which uses the keyboard as the input device instead of the mouse.

There’s no denying that DAW Games aren’t the most useful audio plugins out there, but they’are indeed fun to play. This means that you probably shouldn’t keep them installed in your DAW unless your determination and concentration skills are godlike. Still, if a client catches you playing FlappyMix while you’re supposed to be mixing, simply tell them the truth. You’re carefully navigating through their mix to check if it’s clipping. Nothing wrong with that, really!

DAW Games are compatible with all 64-bit VST and AU plugin hosts on PC and Mac. The download is completely free from the product page linked below, no registration required. On a related note, Klevgränd has recently released an audio gear modeling plugin called REAMP ($29,99) which emulates everything from tape saturation to tube preamp distortion. REAMP is currently available for 50% OFF its regular price.

DAW Games is available for free download via Klevgränd (2.02 MB download size, ZIP archive containing EXE installer, 64-bit VST/AU plugin format for Windows & MacOS).
