SampleScience has released Room Piano v3, an updated version of its freeware acoustic piano virtual instrument for Windows.
Room Piano is a sample-based virtual piano in VST3 and AU plugin formats for 64-bit digital audio workstations on Windows. It is a lightweight virtual instrument that consumes next to zero RAM and CPU resources.
See also: 99Sounds Releases FREE Upright Piano VST/AU PluginTo quantify how lightweight the plugin is, let’s just point out the fact that Room Piano uses only 60 MB of sample content as the sound source. That’s nothing compared to multi-gigabyte piano instruments like Piano in 162.
With that in mind, it’s clear that SampleScience’s freeware plugin won’t work as a substitute for a detailed grand piano sound library. It only features two velocity layers, and the sampled notes are three semitones apart.
However, it is more than useful for sketching out musical ideas and compositions. Room Piano can even work as the main piano instrument in less demanding projects that don’t require the full scope and nuance of a real piano.
Much like the recently released Upright Piano by 99Sounds, it can become your piano plugin of choice for lofi hip-hop.
The latest version of Room Piano (v3) features an updated interface, based on the same GUI engine that SampleScience uses across its entire product range. The user can fine-tune the sampled piano with a multi-mode filter (high-pass and low-pass), a simple LFO modulator, an ADSR envelope, and a room reverb.
