Mixland releases freeTILT!, a freeware tilt equalizer effect in VST, AAX, and AU plugin formats for digital audio workstations on Windows and macOS.
freeTILT! is a stripped-down version of the TILT! ($29.99) equalizer plugin, the result of a collaboration between Mixland and Kiive Audio. We mentioned Kiive Audio’s free Warmy EP1A Tube EQ plugin on BPB in 2021.
The full version of TILT! is a passive tilt/shelving equalizer with adjustable vacuum tube saturation on the output. freeTILT! is based on the same algorithms, but it only keeps the tilt EQ control and the vacuum tube circuit from the original. The shelving EQ is not included.
You can think of freeTILT! as a compact audio coloration box or a tube saturation plugin with a tone control. It’s not a surgical mixing tool. But it works pretty well for applying broad tonal changes to a sound while optionally adding some tube warmth and character on top.
The controls are as simple as possible. The Tilt knob adjusts the eq balance, and the Grit slider applies tube distortion. The tilt EQ module features fixed high-frequency and low-frequency points at 100 Hz and 12 kHz.
So, if you want to slightly warm up a bass guitar, increase the Grit amount and reduce the Tilt knob by a tiny notch.
