Jace Clayton has relead Sufi Plug Ins, a collection of 7 insteresting free plugins for Ableton Live (Max4Live required).

SUFI PLUG INS v.1 are a free suite of seven audio software tools for Ableton Live (Max4Live). They include four software synthesizers hardwired to North African maqam scales with quartertone tuning built-in, a device called DEVOTION which lowers your computer’s volume 5 times a day during call to prayer (presets include Agnostic, Fervent, Devout), and a drone machine.

Sufi Plug Ins are available for free download via Jace Clayton’s website. I’d really like to check these plugins out, and they’re yet another reason why I regret not using Ableton Live. However, note that even if you own Ableton Live, you’ll also need Max4Live in order to use the Sufi Plug Ins suite.

There’s a strong exotic/mystical vibe coming from these plugins, up to the point that (awesomely enough) the intefrace controls are labeled in Berber language (more info on Wikipedia). Also, the instruments are hard-wired to maqam scales used in Arabic music. The dev has also created a set of artwork videos to go with audio demos of the plugins (one of these is embedded below).
