DontCrack is giving away the excellent Bus Driver plugin as a free download for a limited time, in memory of Nomad Factory’s founder Bernie Torelli who passed away on January 18th this year.
Bernie Torelli was a gifted guitarist, music producer and also a very talented and forward-thinking audio plugin developer. He is most known for his work on Nomad Factory products, but he was also the developer behind several other plugin suites, such as DontCrack’s V.I.P. Bundle, for example. We hereby send one last thank you to Mr Torelli for everything he did for the audio community. May he rest in peace.
In memory of Bernie Torelli, his close friends at DontCrack are giving away Bus Driver, one of the Nomad Factory plugins, as a free download for a limited time. To download Bus Driver for free, visit the product page on DontCrack and enter the coupon code “freebusdriver” at checkout. After applying the code, the price will be reduced from $119 to $0. To activate Bus Driver on your computer, simply enter your serial number (which you will receive via email) when you launch the plugin for the first time.
Bus Driver is an easy to use analog style compressor with added tube emulation. The user interface is fairly simple, with just a couple of knobs and a set of buttons to adjust the compression ratio (from 2:1 to brickwall limiting) and metering. Despite being so easy to use, the plugin also includes a set of factory presets for different mixing and mastering scenarios. As always, though, you should tweak these presets to better suit the source audio material in order to get the best possible results with Bus Driver.
IMPORTANT INFO #1: To everyone having issues during the free checkout procedure over at DontCrack, it’s obviously a bug. Try using a US address, as suggested by the DontCrack support team (thanks to our reader Tev for reporting this).
IMPORTANT INFO #2: If you can’t activate the plugin using your serial number, create a new folder named “Licenses” in ~Library/Application Support/Nomad Factory/ and give the activation procedure another try.

Then it is asking about permissions of the ‘Licenses’ Folder. I created a folder, naming it ‘Licenses’, inside ‘Nomad Factory’ next to ‘Buses’ and make all permissions Read and Write. That all you are supposed to do? It is still saying the same problem. Am I missing something?

onYou just created the folder Licenses and it worked with the Serial number as the Activation Code? That’s what I done but it still says cannot create license folder, check permissions. All my permissions are Read and Write.

onI had the same problem. The reason is apparently the registration uses the Safari browser on my macbook, and Safari was broken on my computer. If you aren’t connected to the internet, registration won’t work, if Safari on the Mac won’t start, registration won’t work. Once I reinstalled Safari, the registration went through.
There is an issue on some macs where Safari is broken and you have to reinstall from the System disk. I didn’t have them and you can’t find the right version of Safari for OSX 10.7.5 as a separate install. But I managed to downgrade to an older version of Safari using Pacifist, and then “Software Update” saw this and made available an updated Safari for reinstall.

onlol compression, the killer of dynamics. people get obsessed with compression for academic reasons of making their music louder. nothing about style or quality, just loudness. can’t sand over-compressed music, in the past i’ve deleted tracks purely because they were recorded so awfully, i.e. over-compressed.

onCompression is nice and useful. It adds punch, energy and power. If you know how it works and how to use it, you can also create dynamics with it. Compression is the killer of dynamics ONLY when you overuse it. Period.
Cmon, stop everybody with this “oh people are so into copression they don’t know what they’re doing”. These kind of comments never helped anybody neither did they find useful purpose.
If people ruin their songs because of too much compression it’s none of my nor your business.

onJust trieed this comp and it is great. One of the coolest comps i’ve ever seen. Unfortunately they charging for each version of plugin, i.e. PC or Mac or VST or AAX and default option to buy is Mac-VST, so pay attention please. And the reason of the giveaway is very sad.

onThe confirmation email contains the download link for all versions (PC/Mac) and the serial number works for all versions. I also checked out with the Mac VST by accident, but then I downloaded the Windows version and the serial worked. And indeed, the reason for the giveaway is very sad.

onI received an email earlier from Don’t Crack’s mailing list. The story of Bernie’s dedication to create continue creating plugins, while he was sick, is extremely inspiring. They mentioned that he made the decision to release this as a gift to everyone for all of the support during his battle. Unfortunately he was not able to be here for the release. That being said, it’s disheartening to see some people complaining about this. Ok, maybe some people have had a different experience while trying to purchase… But to get frustrated and lash out at a company who just lost a “family” member, and follow through with giving this away as a tribute and gift, is simply disrespectful. If you can’t download it, just move on! Or better yet, send them an email, I’m sure they are willing to help.
