HY-Plugins Releases Free HY-Phaser VST Plugin

Tadashi Suginomori (aka HY-Plugins) has announced the release of HY-Phaser, a freeware phaser effect in 32-bit and 64-bit VST plugin format for Windows based digital audio workstations.

HY-Phaser is a nice sounding phaser effect which packs some additional features that set it apart from similar tools on the freeware plugin market. Most importantly, HY-Plugins’ latest release comes with three envelope followers that can be used to modulate the depth and feedback of the phaser effect, as well as the volume of the wet signal. In addition, the plugin comes with a pair of filters which can be used to control the bandwidth of the signal entering the phaser circuit (the overall frequency spectrum of the processed signal is not affected by these filters).

Apart from these bonus features, HY-Phaser is pretty much your bread and butter phaser effect. The sound of the phaser module is controlled by the depth, feedback, rate and width parameters and the LFO comes with six different modes (sine wave, triangle, ramp up, ramp down, square and random) with optional waveform smoothing. Unfortunately, the plugin can’t be synced to the host application’s tempo setting. The CPU hit is reasonably low, peaking around 3% on our dual core test machine.

At this point, it’s safe to say that Tadashi Suginomori (the developer behind HY-Plugins) is building a bundle of plugins that can definitely be considered the Kjaerhus Classic effects collection for the modern age. The interface design is nice and clean, the feature set is exactly what you’d need for mixing on a day to day basis and the sound is just right. I’m a big fan of all HY-Plugins releases so far (HY-Delay still being my #1 pick) and I can’t wait to see what this developer will come up with next. From what I’ve seen on KVR Audio, a freeware chorus effect is one of the things that he is working on at the moment.

HY-Phaser is available for direct free download from Tadashi Suginomori’s website. There’s no need to sign up for a user account or submit your email address. The plugin is distributed as a ZIP archive containing the DLL files for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows based VST plugin hosts.

HY-Phaser is available for free download via HY-Plugins (1.77 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit & 64-bit VST plugin format for Windows).
