Boz Digital Labs is giving away their new Gatey Watey frequency-selective lookahead gate effect (VST/AU/AAX/RTAS) as a free download for everyone who completes the checkout process using the coupon code freegatey before May 7th.
Gatey Watey ($10 value) is a special kind of noise gate which allows the user to pinpoint the exact frequency range which will be attenuated when the gating occurs. This leads to more natural sounding volume attenuation, especially in scenarios like noise or hum removal. In an example video posted on Boz Digital’s website, the plugin removes the noise from a sustained guitar track without cutting off the sustained sound altogether. Pretty cool!
The control scheme is exactly what you’d expect to see in a noise gate effect, except for the addition of the frequency cufoff slider. You get the standard threshold slider (-72 dB to 0 dB), range (attenuation amount), attack, release, and lookahead knobs, along with a filter which can operate in high-pass, all-pass, and low-pass modes, ranging from 12 Hz to 20 kHz. The plugin couldn’t be easier to use, as long as you have the basic understaing of how noise gates work. The basic idea is to set the threshold to the volume below which you’d like the gating to occur and then use the filter to select the frequency range to be attenuated. The range, attack, and release parameters are used to adjust the intesity and the speed of the gating effect.
When the developers at Boz Digital Labs say that something is free for a limited time only, they’re not joking. For example, they released this neat little (and crazy looking) plugin called Tilty Wilty a few years ago, free for a few days only, and it has since been replaced with an advanced version of the plugin called T-Bone ($49). So, if you fancy yourself a nice frequency selective noise gate, download Gatey Watey for free while you still can (use the coupon code freegatey at checkout).
Gatey Watey is available for free download via Boz Digital Labs (2.6 MB download size, EXE installer, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AU/AAX/RTAS plugin formats for Windows & Mac OS).

onThis is really cool. It’s kinda like a hybrid between a gate and a dynamic shelf EQ.
