Boz Digital Labs has introduced Bark of Dog 2, a freeware resonant high-pass filter effect in VST, VST3, AU, AAX, and RTAS plugin formats for compatible digital audio workstations on PC and Mac.
Bark of Dog 2 is a resonant high-pass filter plugin designed for cleaning up the extreme bass frequencies while, at the same time, being able to boost a part of the low-end spectrum. The new version of the plugin expands on the original Bark of Dog by introducing two additional filtering modes: Passive and Combo. The default mode, labeled Classic, is exactly the same as the original Bark of Dog’s single processing mode.See also: HY-Filter3 Is A FREE Filter VST/AU Plugin By HY-Plugins
So what do the new filtering modes bring to the table? The first one, called Passive, is modeled after the classic Pultec passive equalizer design. This filter design is famous because of the “Pultec low-end trick” for boosting the bass frequencies, also known as the “push-pull technique”. The technique essentially consists of removing unwanted bass content while also boosting the cutoff frequency, thus increasing clarity and improving the bass presence at the same time. Bark of Dog 2 does the latter while operating in Passive mode, using the Boost knob to add more bass at the cutoff point. However, when set to Passive mode, Bark of Dog 2 doesn’t remove any frequency content below the cutoff point. It simply works as a single peak EQ band with a fixed curve.
The other new filter mode, called Combo, provides the same boost curve while also removing low-end content below the cutoff point. It is the perfect mode for the push-pull technique and definitely the recommended method of using Bark of Dog 2 for adding clarity to a bass-heavy track. To give it a try, load the plugin on a bass drum track and set the cutoff point to the kick’s fundamental frequency, then add some boost to taste. The kick should sound more focused with an increased thump and reduced muddiness in the sub-bass region.
In addition to these core features, the plugin also features a preset manager with six factory patches, a mix knob for easy parallel processing, A/B testing and undo functionality, as well as a stereo peak meter. Bark of Dog 2 is also capable of mid/side processing, in addition to the default stereo processing mode.

Does it alter the phase response like other eq?
After Really testing it on some current projects, turns out it sounds very useful. Still dont know about phase but will do the test later on. So far, this plugin is an incredible freebie. So useful.
Doesn’t it do what every high pass filter does?
