In celebration of their 9th anniversary, the team at Cinematique Instruments has announced the release of Landscape, a freely downloadable sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
Landscape is a sample-based instrument for creating deep cinematic ambiances and soundscapes. It works equally well as a drone generator and as an instrument for playing melodies and harmonies. Landscape requires the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt and will only work for fifteen minutes in the freeware Kontakt Player plugin.

Positioned on the left is the audio mixer with seven sound slots, each with corresponding filter, tuning, and modulation amount parameters. The first five slots can hold any combination of the four available harmonic sound sources (sine wave, flaring sound, warmth, and fragile sax), whereas slots six and seven hold non-harmonic sounds such as noise, water drops, and rumbling. The right-hand side of the interface is where you’ll find the volume envelope controls and the FX section with reverb and delay effects. Also included are the global controls for the filter, rotary speaker effect, tone color adjustment, and more.
If you want to take full advantage of Landscape’s sound design engine, it is highly recommended to read the provided user manual before first use. However, presuming that you don’t mind a bit of experimenting and tweaking sounds by ear, rest assured that Landscape can be a lot of fun to use even if you don’t fully understand its ins and outs. Most importantly, it is a very useful tool for creating atmospheric sounds and all sorts of cinematic pads and drones. Definitely worth the download if you’re looking to expand that aspect of your sonic arsenal.
