Free MS-20 Valve Drums Sample Pack Released By Goldbaby

Goldbaby has released MS-20 Valve Drums, a freely downloadable collection of drum samples made with the Korg MS-20 vintage analog synthesizer.

MS-20 Valve Drums contains 78 one-shot drum samples which were captured from the Korg MS-20 synthesizer. As expected in a Goldbaby product, the source sounds were given additional sonic treatment using various outboard gear. The focus, in this case, was on tube preamps, hence the word Valve in the product title. The list of hardware gear that was used for processing the MS-20 sounds includes the Thermionic Culture Fat Bustard II and the SPL TwinTube Processor.

The pack contains seven types of drum sounds (bass drum, snare, open hi-hats, closed hi-hats, congas, rim shot, and cymbals). The samples sound punchy and warm with the right amount of saturation added on top. My favorite sounds in the pack are the snares which sound crunchy and almost broken but in a good way. They remind me of Volca Beats snares, although with plenty more punch and body. The kicks are also excellent, sitting somewhere between the 808 and 909 bass drums in terms of tone. All samples included in MS-20 Valve Drums are provided in 24-bit WAV format.

The pack can be downloaded completely free of charge from Goldbaby’s website. There’s no need to sign up or create a user account – simply hit the download button and you’re good to go. There are quite a few freebie sample packs available on the same page, so be sure to check those out as well if you’re into saturated drum sounds.
