Steven Slate Drums has released the updated version of SSD Free, a freeware drum kit virtual instrument based on the premium SSD 5.5 software.
The freeware version of SSD was updated to version 5.5, introducing a number of new drum kits and several new features. Also, the new version of SSD Free comes with an improved installer and an overhauled user interface. The introduction of a new installer is great news since the old one was somewhat cumbersome to use.
The three new kits in SSD Free take advantage of the plugin’s new functionality. For example, the improved amplitude envelope controls were used to tighten up the sound of the Deluxe Free 2 Free Tight kit. All three drum kits sound exceptionally good and these are definitely among the best acoustic drum samples you can download for free. As for the music genre compatibility, SSD Free drums are mostly suitable for use in rock and heavy metal music.
The best thing about SSD Free is that it puts a wide palette of drum editing tools at the user’s disposal. You can fine-tune each drum channel via the built-in mixer and enhance the drum samples using a hefty selection of mixing tools. SSD Free comes with adjustable envelopes, dynamics, articulation controls, microphone volume, and more. The users can save their custom drum kit settings as presets for later use. Check out the demo video below to see the new user interface and hear the SSD Free plugin in action.
