Wavesfactory Releases FREE SnareBuzz VST/AU Plugin

Wavesfactory has released SnareBuzz, a freeware audio effect that simulates the rattle of an acoustic snare drum.

SnareBuzz is a psycho-acoustic effect designed for simulating the behavior of a real snare drum. In the words of its developers, SnareBuzz “simulates the sympathetic resonance produced by the wires of a snare drum when another sound source is playing near.”

The idea behind SnareBuzz is to provide an easy-to-use tool that would make drum recordings and sampled snare drums sound more realistic. For example, if a snare drum was recorded using a single microphone that captured the sound of the top snare head, SnareBuzz can be applied to simulate the rattle of the bottom head. It is a subtle effect that can be used sparingly to increase the overall realism of a recorded snare drum.

The user can adjust several parameters that define the rattle generated by SnareBuzz. There are five different types of snare drums to choose from and the user can fine-tune the tightness of the selected snare model’s skin. Also, it is possible to choose several studio room models, ranging from an empty room to a wooden recording studio. To further tweak the studio ambiance, the user can adjust the distance of the recording microphone. The plugin also features a mix knob for easy parallel processing and an output volume control, along with an output VU meter.

SnareBuzz can be downloaded completely free of charge from Wavesfactory’s website. A valid email address is required to receive the download link. SnareBuzz is available in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats for compatible digital audio workstations on PC and Mac. Only 64-bit host applications are supported. 1. It’s 2020 and producers are working to simulate what they developed their craft for years to minimize. Can’t help but appreciate the irony.

  2. if you make your own snare sounds with synths, this plugin right here is a winner for sure. I had v1 and loved it, stoked to try v2
