Waves are offering the Manny Marroquin Tone Shaper ($99 value) plugin as a free download for all registered users until September 15th, 2020.

Manny Marroquin Tone Shaper is a four-band linear-phase parallel compressor. It uses parallel compression and EQ to bring out the character of the processed audio signal in a musical way, without sounding harsh or artificial. It is intended for use as a “polish” effect for defining the space of individual tracks in a mix that already sounds good.

The plugin was developed by Waves, following the design ideas and guidelines provided by the Grammy-winning mixing engineer Manny Marroquin. It is intended for use as a “polish” effect for defining the space of individual tracks in a mix that already sounds good.

The interface features six sliders that control the level of the direct signal, the four frequency bands, and the widened signal. Located above the sliders are the mute switches for each band. The bottom row is where you’ll find the input and output volume controls, as well as the three-way switches that adjust the focus EQ curve of each frequency band.

  1. This one was easy to get, thanks! Unfortunately it will stay on my Waves account, like the rest of their freebies. Perhaps one day I’ll download their “hassle system” and try the plugins out! Of course I understand that their strategy is to offer so many freebies over time, that eventually, it will become very tempting to get the Waves Central to get those plugins working…. and then easily purchase more etc. Let’s see if it works on me! In any case this one seemed really interesting!

    • Well, Waves Central is a bit of a hassle, but it isn’t the big problem it used to be (in my book anyway). The BIG problem is the Waves Update Plan (WUP)! Sooner or later, Waves releases new plugin versions of the same stuff you already own (that do nothing extra/better), and at that point, it becomes a PITA to get your Waves stuff installed on a new box, without paying money to upgrade each plugin’s version to the latest version–which is always the only version that installs properly via Waves Central. There are never any real benefits to upgrading, it’s just a bit of a racket. But, they do have some neat stuff, and I don’t update most of mine, anyway… Bring on the hassle, ya bastids…

      • I have some plugins from like 2014 and a few months ago I had to do a fresh install of my system. I downloaded the offline installer and it was set up and working faster than it did half a decade ago (took like 10 mins).

So IMHO and in my experience there is no need to sweat it because of the WUP. Also, waves central has gotten better over the years. As I said, my last install was surprisingly painless, even with old plugins. Give it a shot… it might surprise you!

  2. Thanks! I got this. There have been several free Waves plugins recently.

I also just noticed that IK Multimedia is giving away their Classic Clipper for free. You’ll need an account and need to sign up for their mailing list.
