W.A. Production releases Puncher 2 Lite, a freeware transient shaper effect in VST, AU, and AAX plugin formats for digital audio workstations on PC and Mac.
Puncher 2 is an ultra-lightweight transient shaping and multi-band compression tool. It is based on the same DSP engine as W.A. Production’s flagship Puncher 2 ($69) plugin, but the “Lite” edition features a more streamlined control interface.

The first knob boosts the attack transient, adding punch to kick drums, snares, and other percussive sounds. The second knob splits the audio into four bands and then compresses each band individually for a smooth “analog-like” effect. The third knob controls the built-in parallel compressor.
Puncher 2 Lite also features a bypass switch and a master gain knob. Use the bypass switch for quick A/B testing and use the master volume knob for easy gain-staging. You can save your favorite settings for later with the built-in preset manager.
It’s no surprise that Puncher 2 Lite works quite well as a drum processor. Use the transient section for adding punch, then combine the multi-band and parallel compressor for a gentle loudness boost.
It’s also worth mentioning the real-time gain reduction display. The plugin shows the incoming audio and processed audio waveforms in the GUI center, so the user can visually identify any problem areas.
