Basslane Is A FREE Bass Enhancement Plugin By Tone Projects

Tone Projects offers an updated version of Basslane, a FREE bass enhancement plugin for macOS and Windows.

Basslane is an upgraded and improved version of an existing popular freebie and comes alongside the release of Basslane Pro.

The original Basslane plugin has been around for a very long time, and the first thing that stands out with this new release is that it looks significantly better. Given the time between both releases, it’s not surprising that the new one looks better, but the GUI looks great, so it’s worth a mention.

Basslane provides flexible monitoring options for both the dry and wet signals, including Delta, Mid, Side, and filter solo.

Going through the main controls from left to right starts with the Mode and Slope switches. Basslane has two Response Modes, Classic and Flat (new to this version).

The Slope switch allows you to vary the filter steepness with selectable 6/12 dB/Oct filter slopes.

Next up is the Frequency control, which ranges from 10 Hz to 2.5 kHz, followed by Width (full mono to stereo) and Gain knobs.

Another new addition that comes from Basslane Pro is the Side Harmonics control. By introducing upper bass harmonics, you can use the side Harmonics knob to add definition and pseudo width to your bass. It’s a cool feature that should help find the right balance of clarity, definition, and impact.

Being too concerned about keeping the bass centered in the stereo field to avoid muddiness sometimes results in a lack of impact that leaves everything sounding very flat and lifeless. Having a bassline that doesn’t hit hard enough when it should, and loses the impact or groove, is just as bad as having a muddy mix.

Basslane aims to fix that problem by allowing you to keep your low frequencies in check without sucking the life out of your bass.

Even as more of a utility plugin, Basslane can make it easier to be creative with other plugins/effects. Adding Basslane to the end of your effects chain will let you run wild with stereo effects without your low-end running wild.

Talking of bass and grooves, check out the free Crux Bass Guitar sample library, and don’t forget Prime8+ from UVI is free for a limited time.

Basslane is available in AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS and Windows.

  1. I’m surprised no one is commenting on the plugin itself. Basslane has been great for many years. It’s awesome that this is finally away from Synthedit! I hope this means Sonitex and Compadre will be next to get the Win 64 and Mac OS treatment; those are classics, esp Sonitex which I still use in my productions today. Thanks, Tone Projects and BPB!

  2. PM8910 retro gaming sound sample pack is free this weekend, works with various sampler formats:

  3. Computer Music continue to keep FileSilo open and a new issue is out this week. It gives access to T-Rack EQP-1A but you will need the mag in hand to answer a quiz to get a serial

    • Whether keeping FileSilo open is key to their future plans or just an experiment I cannot say. What I do know is that if you pay attention to my first sentence you can have a free licence for EQP-1A from Monday onwards with no need to buy the magazine.

        • Their security quizzes have always been easy to solve. This one being multiple choice is even easier; just guessing gets you the right answers after a few tries. Utterly pointless.
