As the name suggests, Black Mirror Reverb isn’t a typical reverb plugin, and we could probably expect as much coming from Witch Pig.
The plugin delivers dark, distorted reflections that can turn your sound into anything from slightly edgy to eerie to riotous anarchy.
The plugin is free to download, but there’s a small trade; you must subscribe to the developer’s YouTube channel to activate the download link.
It’s like when Robert Johnson went to the crossroads and asked the Devil to make him the best blues guitarist the world had ever heard.
The Devil agreed, but in return, Johnson had to subscribe to the Devil’s YouTube channel and possibly like and share at least one video per week, although I’m not 100% sure if that last part is factually accurate.
It’s a fair deal, and I’m pointing it out before this becomes another “witchpig hunt” (credit BPB reader MRG).
EDITOR’S NOTE: For those who don’t read BPB’s comments section regularly, there was a bit of a “heated debate” when we covered Witch Pig’s previous plugin, so these last few paragraphs were a reference to that.
The interface features Divide, Reflect, and Shudder controls to adjust the reverb and a Magnify knob for tonal variation. Black Mirror Reverb comes to life when you introduce the two remaining controls: Distort and Crush.
Distort is for hard clipping, and Crush reduces the bit rate.
While Black Mirror Reverb isn’t a go-to plugin for a run-of-the-mill reverb, you can use it as a simple fuzz effect or bit-crusher by lowering the reverb controls.
In typical Witch Pig fashion, a different approach to a common effect brings so much character, and the plugin shines with distortion and reverb combined. It comes with some nice factory presets, too.
Also, in typical Witch Pig fashion, the GUI is visually striking. Last time, we had the hypnotic patterns of Bangkok Ping Pong; this time, we had an eerie, glitching black mirror that looked like something from an old-school horror movie.
Black Mirror Reverb is available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS and Windows.

onHeated debate indeed. Somehow, I missed that (thankfully). Witch is a great developer and with so many people making super clean reverbs, I think its well forgotten that a dirty verb is actually very useful as you can hear it better – witch can be a good thing.

onYeah I love Witchpig’s plugins.

on“Secure Site Not Available”
Thanks but no, dear http without s.
Brenny C
onI get no such warning on either of my browsers. The link is fine and Witchpig is a trusty developer.

onJust enable HTTPS-Only Mode in your browser and you’ll see… Some http sites switch to https, this one doesn’t. We live in the 21st century, I don’t understand what the creators of such websites are thinking.

onIf you are just visiting a site and downloading something, while also not transferring any secure information, just http is fine from what I know.

onI do not have a Youtube/Google account, so I cannot subscribe. What can I do?
FuegoC
onYou can create a burner account – it’s what I’ve been doing for audio-related site registrations and things like that.

onWithout a mobile number for a verification sms?

onClick “1. Subscribe”, let the new tab open, wait a second or two, click “2. Download”. >:P
I don’t have an account either, I’m waaaaaay too lazy for that. If you have an account, just subscribe, your soul can take the damage.
Bendie
onOh, yes, that worked for me, too! Thank you!

onTruly not a huge trade. small devs need to promote themselves and I think this is a reasonable ask.

onThanks Pitch Wig!
