Plugin Boutique has made its DriveMod distortion and modulation plugin available for $1 until August 10, 2024.
The Windows and macOS plugin usually costs $49, but you can pick it up for only $1 with the coupon code DM-1 on Plugin Boutique’s website.
It’s not the only spicy deal that Plugin Boutique is offering this month, as the platform is also offering a buy-and-get-one-free agreement on its products throughout August 2024.
So, for only $1, you can get the DriveMod distortion effect plus Softube VCA Compressor ($149) or Imaginando K7D ($40). Act fast, though, as the offer ends in a few days.
To get this deal, add DriveMod to your shopping cart, go to checkout, choose your free gift, and then apply the code DM-1 on the payment page. Check out the screenshot below to see the shopping cart with the screenshot applied.
Now, let’s take a look at what DriveMod offers.
Plugin Boutique describes the plugin as “distortion meets modulation.”
The company states that DriveMod “takes the traditional distortion plugin one step further, combining heated overdrive with added life and movement.”
The plugin allows you to choose from six types of distortion, shape your signal with filtering and gain, and then modulate the results with custom-drawn LFO shapes.
Plugin Boutique lists quite the selection of use cases for DriveMod, such as livening up static loops, creating evolving textures on loops, adding punch and presence to drums, character to leads and vocals, warmth and edge to 808s and bass, generating extreme wavelength shaping for experimental distortion effects and adding glue to a bus or mix.
The main control panel for DriveMod includes a selector for the distortion type, which has the following options: Digital, Tube, Diode, Lin Fold, Zero Sq, and Rectify.
Below are the five main parameters: Input, Drive, Tone, Destroy, and Output.
Plugin Boutique states that the Drive control pushes and distorts the signal, Destroy “fully smashes up any audio,” and the Tone “weigh [s]the distortion’s energy.”
The developer also includes the Auto-gain function to automatically balance the output signal.
The interface is rounded out by a preset selector, stereo panner, and filter.
The latter two features allow you to take the wet distortion signal, filter it to a precise frequency band, and then place it in the stereo field.
Eagle-eyed readers may note that DriveMod is a repackaged version of the Soundspot plugin Ravage.
Plugin Boutique acquired Soundspot’s inventory of plugins in October 2023 after the latter business shut down operations.
The user interface of DriveMod has been given a visual refresh, but the plugin’s operation remains similar to the original release.
DriveMod is a 64-bit exclusive release available for Windows (VST, VST3, AAX, standalone) and macOS (VST, VST3, AU, AAX, standalone.)

onI didn’t realize that I already had a Softube VCA license. At least it only cost me $1 for the mistake. Can I just hang onto the serial # without registering it?
Numanoid
onImaginado freebie means installing their manager, if I had known I would have thought twice about selecting that as freebie :-(
Numanoid
onIf such a company should go belly-up, what chance have customers to use the plugin on future new installations on a new computer ?
Just seeing how many small devs sadly has closed down over the last 10 years, I have bought VSTs from, I think twice now about buying into any new “download manager” from a small vendor like Imaginado

onIt’s a crapshoot, bubba. 🤷
You never know what will happen ’til it happens. Some devs close up shop and bail on its users, going MIA and leaving people in the lurch, while others look out for their customers before closing by providing an option to continue using their software long after they’re gone.
So it all depends on the dev, innit? You simply won’t know what a dev is gonna do if they go belly-up until they do because shutting down operations isn’t usually on the agenda of legitimate developers with the will to succeed.
TL;DR, it’s entirely up to you whether you’re willing to gamble on the future of a dev’s software.
Also, in Imaginando’s defense: they’ve been on the scene for quite a while now and haven’t yet shown any signs of struggle. But at the end of the day, who knows?
Bendie
onNo, Imaginando just needs an account. You will need a temporary internet connection on your host computer to activate the plugin tith the account data and the serial number, but you don’t need another manager app!
Numanoid
onI am happy to stand corrected :-)
I misunderstood their webpage earlier. I now downloaded the plugin installer and activated it via serial while being online in my DAW computer, that is how I like it to be !

onActually GUI look worse than Ravage. It’s great it’s back though, Ravage is a great plugin. Hi pass / low pass for processed signal should be on all distortion plugins.
