Plugin developer SaschArt has released 3LufsMeter, a new free plugin audio metering plugin.
As most of you probably know, peaks (aka dB) aren’t the only way to measure volume. In fact, a more accurate way of measuring volume is loudness in LUFS.
Not all frequencies are perceived equally in the human ear. And that’s one of the things LUFS takes into account.
And LUFS measurement tools are nothing new. There are many of them available, including the fantastic Youlean Loudness Meter, which is free.
However, they usually only provide an overall LUFS measurement. 3LufsMeter by SaschArt, however, provides a unique approach.
It is a 3-band LUFS analyzer, which lets you analyze the loudness of your mix in low, mid and high frequencies separately.
You can set crossover frequencies for low-mid and mid-high, as shown in this plugin walkthrough.
Each band has 3 LUFS meters. Integrated LUFS gives you an average loudness over some time. There are also short-term and momentary LUFS meters.
Another feature of this plugin is the ability to compare your mix to industry-standard mixes in pop, rock, trance, and more.
Simply pick from the presets, and the plugin will tell you which band your mix is lacking and which band is too loud.
This approach kind of reminds me of iZotope’s Tonal Balance Control, which can be expensive. 3LufsMeter, on the other hand, is much simpler and free, but still functional.
You can also make your own presets with a reference track. Say there is a song you really like the sound of. You can make a preset from it with 3LufsMeter, and use it to analyze your future mixes.
Last but not least, this plugin is designed to be user-friendly and extremely efficient. It uses little to no CPU and RAM, which is great if you’re already using a lot of plugins.
If anything, it would be nice to have an overall LUFS measurement, as well as the measurements for low, mid, and high ranges.
3LufsMeter is available as a VST2, VST3, and AU plugin for Windows and macOS machines.

on“”” We launched 1.1 version with 24dB capability, but this version is no longer free.
We don’t know exactly when it will be free again, but if it is, we’ll announce it on the website. Stay tuned.

onInteresting, this wasn’t the case when I wrote the article. Thanks for letting us know!

onThanks Soroosh, BPB, much appreciated work you and the team do 🙏😊💛
An alternative if pushed for funds…
The quickest way i can think to monitor individual frequency bands (and if needed, in your loudness meter as well) would be this simple plugin by TB Pro Audio – Isol8 – inserted right before your loudness meter
bedroomproducersblog.com/2017/12/06/tbproaudio-isol8/
Another way to do this would be to insert the free Waves Studio Rack before the loudness meter – with split frequencies soloed one at a time, which offers more opportunities to fix any issue at the same time

onYou can still do something more or less like this for free — just put a splitter before the loudness meter. And… there’s a free one just released recently. https://zl-audio.github.io/plugins/zlsplitter/

onI was lucky, yesterday it was free. I understand that it will be free again.

onI’m using OS Sonoma, Logic 11 and I cannot find 3lufs meter in the list of plugins? Does it work on this system? Thx
Keith Hutchinson
onApologies, I found it under the name EmRysRa. Thx for the plugin.
George
onIt has become more readable, there are fewer distracting, most often just unnecessary pictures, and the dark theme is a plus. Thank you
