Zayne releases Growl Filter, a FREE comb filter plugin for Windows

Developer Zayne has released Growl Filter, a free comb filter plugin for Windows.

We recently covered Cobra Fuzz by Safari Pedals, which, if you haven’t tried yet, be sure to check out! Now we have another plugin that aims to unleash your inner animal: Growl Filter.

Growl Filter by Zayne is a comb filter with an LFO that lets you add movement to your sound.

Like most plugins, Growl Filter suits multiple genres; anything electronic, such as EDM, techno, etc., is great. But you might need to hold back a little with those. If you really want to let Growl Filter go to work, think dubstep, brostep, deathstep, etc.

Almost anything that ends in step will be perfect, but nothing that you can two-step to!

The GUI takes the form of a growling tiger with various controls spread around the face. The controls are as expected for the most part, including Comb Ring/Res/Feed/Shift and Formant.

There is one slight curveball; at the top right corner of the interface, you’ll find the Comb F*ckery control, which I assume is some kind of secret sauce that makes Growl Filter what it is. It’s almost certainly some kind of f*ckery.

Around the middle of the GUI, things get more interesting; this is where you can start animating various parameters with the LFO.

The LFO is easy to use; you have some basic settings on the right-hand side and a range of parameters you can animate below. You can draw your waveshape by dragging the moveable points.

The last controls at the bottom are Lowpass, Amp, and Highpass.

The interface is resizable; I know that function was bugging previously, but maybe the dev has fixed it now. The dev, Zayne, is a DJ, producer, and artist; if you get a free minute or two, check out his work; you might like it.
