Have you ever wanted to play with the MMorph plugin but didn’t have a spare €149 lying around?
Well, today’s your lucky day mate, because Ewan Bristow’s new EB-Morph plugin is like the MMorph, but for free!
EB-Morph is an open-source release that brings the wonders of cepstral morphing to the masses.
Like Bristow’s other releases, EB-Morph runs in the free Plugdata programming environment.
Plugdata operates as a standalone app or plugin on Windows, macOS, Linux, and more.
Bristow said he was inspired by industry-standard advanced morphing plugins such as MMorph to create a free plugin with functionality similar to the big boys.
I do like to see these somewhat left-of-field free indie releases, as I’m pretty sure everyone has a comp or EQ by this point, but perhaps not a morphing processor.
Bristow explains that by sending audio over to the EB-Morph’s effect channel, then giving it a sidechain input you can morph between your audio and the “cepstral domain”.
To see what this means in practice, check out Bristol’s EB-Morph demo YouTube video.
In the video, he runs through the key plugin functionality and also provides some audio examples of how it sounds in various states.
EB-Morph is available via a ‘name a fair price’ model and can be picked up for $0, or more if you wish to support the fine work of Mr. Bristow.
To get the download, you’ll need to complete the checkout process on Gumroad, which requires only an email address.
When I submitted that I was forwarded to a page which had a link to download an 18.9 KB Plugdata file for EB-Morph.
Bristow also provided a link to a 40-second YouTube tutorial on how to install and set up EB-Morph on the page.
This process is quite simple and you could probably wing it without the guide, but it sure is nice to have it there just in case!
To run EB-Morph, you’ll need to run it as a VST inside Plugdata. What’s Plugdata, I hear you say? Plugdata is a free and open-source visual programming environment.
It can operate on a variety of operating systems as a standalone app or as a VST3, CLAP, LV2, or AU plugin.

onI’ve never wanted to play with MMorph but some reason I do want to play with this one :) It’s a beautiful GUI, BTW.

on“beautiful GUI”
Are we looking at the same GUI? Lol
alex
onSure. It’s beautiful in its ugliness.

onFeedback heard,
Next gui will be something nice to look at

onI wasn’t kidding. Friendly advice (nobody’s asked for): never listen to feedback. Make what you want. Market and consumer demands made the World a place where nothing new or different can ever be made. Even worse, music, or any other art for that matter, is treated like a product and now we have what we have. But that’s another story…

onCepstral? Sounds like medication name…
