Ewan Bristow recently released the EB-Resonator, a free melodic resonator that runs in the Plugdata programming environment.
Plugdata is also free and runs as a plugin or standalone app on Windows, macOS, Linux and more.
Bristow commented on his motivations for the release, saying, “A lot of free melodic resonators I’ve tried sound ringy, bell-like and aren’t designed for the applications I wanted. So I built one!”
EB-Resonator is available on Bristow’s Gumroad page via a ‘name a fair price’ model, which can be as low as zero.
Once you’ve selected the price, the download process is quite easy, as all you have to do is provide an email address.
Bristow hosts a YouTube video on the EB-Resonator product page, which includes an audio demo and a demonstration of how the parameters impact the signal.
This is quite handy as the product page is rather light on details about the plugin.
EB-Resonator features a graphical interface and five sections of controls, which are the mixer, key select, resonant glide, reverb and EQ.
In the audio demo, Bristow takes a simple synth bass progression and adds “vibrance and colour” to the part by ramping up the Colour knob, which increases the gain of the resonators.
Reducing or removing the dry signal gives you an even bigger shift in the part, along with altering the starting octave for the resonators.
Changing the key can be achieved with the integrated keyboard, and you can also change between major and minor with the switches in the same section.
The resonant glide section features a pitch glide control, which alters the speed of the change between keys or octaves. It also includes a Ring control, and the developer notes that reducing the parameter “reduces the intensity (of the ring) but allows for a sharper sound.”
The Reverb section features two parameters, which allow you to choose between 10 reverb presets and alter the wet/dry mix of the verb.
At the top of the interface is the highpass and lowpass EQ section. Note that both the EQ and reverb only apply to the coloured signal.
You’ll need to get Plugdata to run EB-Resonator. Plugdata is a free and open-source visual programming environment.
Plugdata can run on a wide range of operating systems as a standalone app or as a VST3, LV2, CLAP, or AU plugin.

onThis is awesome, especially as plugdata can run on iOS, as standalone or auv3! You can integrate it into GarageBand and Logic Pro for iPad. I’ve tried it. It sounds great! I highly recommend getting plugdata on whatever operating system you use. You can even learn it and produce your own audio effects. The language is the same as in puredata

onGlad to hear it’s working for you :)

onActually I got plugdata enviroment from this post. I always love object programming instead of typical coding. Anyway great stuff to find out and dig in. Maybe some day plugin from me :) Cheers

onI found Ewan Bristow’s video on this patch randomly on my yt feed and am now trying to learn PD. It’s apparently quite similar to m4l, as it is also a visual programming language for audio. Hopefully I can make some cool effects in the future too!

onRigid Audio has set Synferno free: It is an electronic and cinematic trailer scoring loop based Kontakt instrument that comes with 350 preset “kits” that can be played in tandem across four categories (Bass, Synth, Ambient and Groove):,
NOTE: Kontakt 5.8.1+ is needed, doesn’t work with Kontakt Player.
