Audiomodern’s Mechania is the first free library for Soundbox as the previous releases (Voxmotive, Kromium, and Cosmo) were priced at €39 (€29 during the introductory sale).
Soundbox is an advanced MPE sampler for macOS and Windows.
Soundbox is now in version 1.0.4, and this update slightly changes the pricing model.
Although Soundbox has always been a free player, we had to purchase a library to activate all features.
Version 1.0.4 unlocks all features for free other than the Sample & Mapping editor.
This change means that users can harness almost all of the power of Soundbox when downloading the free Mechania.
We can also use third-party libraries created and shared by users with a full Soundbox license (users who have bought a paid library).
Mechania focuses on synth textures, electronic FX, and bold leads.
The new library is just over 1GB and includes 15 factory presets. One of the first things that stands out about the sound of Mechania is that context is everything.
Some elements of Mechania are gritty and industrial-like, some are lush and almost vintage, and some are sparkly and modern.
It’s great when a pack covers several musical genres and spans decades authentically.
Audiomodern lists Synthwave, EDM, Ambient, and Techno among the obvious candidates for Mechania.
I really like the low-droning synth tones; they are perfect for that dystopian sci-fi feel, and I can imagine Mechania making an excellent addition to a media composer toolkit.
Modulation is a key element of Mechania, which showcases the ability of Soundbox.
The included presets are ready-to-go sounds, but creating evolving soundscapes through real-time modulation is when you’ll hear the best of Mechania and Soundbox.
I think there is more to come from Soundbox; it’s a new player, and people are still discovering its capabilities.
As more libraries are released, we should see Soundbox gain momentum in the race to become a go-to sampler in a competitive market.
It’s nice to see the first free library and some adjustments in pricing. Paid libraries are relatively well priced at €39, and even better if you can grab one in a sale.
Don’t forget to enter the Mode Audio Airspace giveaway while you still can!
Soundbox is available in AU, VST, VST3, AAX, and Standalone formats for macOS and Windows.

Too much content for the hard-drive, with too few presets for me, I’ll stick with Kontakt libs

onThey fixed the MPE pitchbend issues, hopefully are implementing MPE fully, listened to user feedback about pricing language/business model among other things. I’m excited to see where they take it, I’ve made some pretty great sounding stuff in it and fast too boot. Happy to see a company actually implement customer feedback.
