Over the last few months, I’ve had the pleasure of working with BPB as a writer (EDITOR’S NOTE: Glad to have you on board, Soroosh!). I’ve written articles on a wide range of products from various developers.
Today’s article is different, though, because I get to introduce you to a new, free sample library made by yours truly 🙂 – the Telephone Guitar.
That’s right. Telephone Guitar is my new release, and it’s a free guitar sample library that runs inside Decent Sampler.
If you’re looking for a realistic guitar library, then Telephone Guitar may not be for you. But if you’re looking for a more crunchy, lo-fi sound, you’ve definitely come to the right place.

See, this library wasn’t recorded with a standard microphone. I took a much more “DIY” approach, so to speak.
I’d heard of the idea of a “telephone mic”, where you take the handset of an old-school landline and somehow wire an audio jack or connector to it. And if done right, you’ll have a telephone mic.
I knew I had to make one myself. While telephone mics are typically used to get the “telephone effect” on vocals, I was more interested in trying it on acoustic guitar.
So, I sampled my Yamaha CPX500 NT acoustic guitar through it.
I recorded the open strings, with 3 round robins, using the ancient strings that were on the guitar. I figured that would make the samples sound even more Lofi.
The result is an unconventional guitar sound but a pleasing one that’s perfect for Lofi, indie rock, hip hop, or anywhere that you want a more gritty or Lofi guitar tone.
With this library, you get 5 keyswitchable articulations: Fingerstyle, Picked, Muted Fingerstyle, Harmonic Fingerstyle, and Harmonic Picked. There’s also a “bonus” Harmonic Strum articulation.
You can control the ADSR envelope, velocity sensitivity, bathroom reverb, and noise level.
More controls can be accessed via the “SHOW FX” button. You’ve got a filter with adjustable resonance, Grit, Rotary, Delay, Chorus, and Reverb.
And finally, there are 11 additional presets to showcase the wide range of sounds you can get out of this library. There are processed guitar samples, snappy plucks, pads, and even a bass for you to check out.
Telephone Guitar is a sample library that runs inside the free Decent Sampler.
Decent Sampler is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux in VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX formats. It is also an app for iOS devices.
Huge thanks to Tomislav and the BPB team for featuring Telephone Guitar! And we hope you enjoy this FREE library 🙂
