Fracture Sounds has been releasing great Kontakt libraries as of late, including several quality freebies as part of their Blueprint collection. And today, we’ll look at their 16th addition to the series, Blueprint: Bass Guitar.
With this library, they’ve sampled a Fender Precision Bass (or P-bass for short) in detail, using both picked and fingered articulations.
There are also several features that we’ll take a look at, but first, here’s Marcus from Fracture Sounds showcasing the Blueprint: Bass Guitar.

I like the sound of this library. It has the midrange-y sound we know from P-basses while giving you more control over the tone.
You can actually pick between an amped signal or a direct signal. The direct signal can be great on its own or paired with your favorite bass amp sim.
As mentioned earlier, there are fingered and picked articulations, which you can switch between in the GUI or by using keyswitches.
A 3-band EQ would have been nice to have for sculpting the sound, but you do get a one-knob tone control for adjusting the overall brightness of the sound.
Blueprint: Bass Guitar has a compressor built in, which is almost always essential for processing bass guitar.
There’s also a “drive” knob that is only available when using the amped signal, which can add a nice gritty flavor to the tone.
Finally, if you click the cog wheel, there are additional controls for adjusting release volume and also velocity sensitivity.
This is great for optimizing the library’s playability with your setup since not all MIDI keyboards are made equal.
You can, of course, use this library as is, like a bass guitar. But since we’re dealing with samples, we can do all sorts of things like pitch shifting, for example.
In their demo, Fracture Sounds shows how pitch shifting the samples up can create an interesting-sounding pluck instrument. But we’ll leave it there for you to explore this library as you see fit.

Blueprint: Bass Guitar is available for both the full version of Kontakt as well as the free Kontakt Player. However, note that version 8 of Kontakt is required.
