Klanghelm Audio has released IVGI, a freeware saturation effect in VST and AU plugin formats for digital audio workstations on PC and Mac.
IVGI is a lightweight version of the SDRR saturation plugin by Klanghelm. It features a simplified control scheme, but the underlying analog saturation algorithms are just as good as in the paid version of the software.
See also: Free Saturation VST PluginsThe plugin is designed as a soft saturation device, intended for use both on individual channels and in the stereo bus. It features four knobs that can be used to fine-tune the character and transparency of the applied saturation.
Adjust the Drive knob to set the saturation amount, then tweak Asym Mix control to adjust the symmetry without affecting the harmonic distortion. Use the X-Talk control to simulate crosstalk on a stereo signal.
Here’s how Klanghelm describes the IVGI saturation effect:
“IVGI can deliver very soft and subtle saturation, that feels at home on the master bus. It is equally capable of very dense and dirty distortion effects to spice up single tracks.”
Klanghelm Audio is also known for DC1A, one of the best free compressor plugins on the market. Be sure to give it a try if you need a great-sounding compressor plugin that’s easy to use.
IVGI is available for direct free download from Klanghelm Audio. You don’t need to sign up or activate the software.
