Clap Machine is a free virtual instrument in VST and AU plugin formats released by 99Sounds, featuring a set of natural hand clap samples from the free Hands Make Sounds sample library.
The plugin is designed as a simple tool for adding natural sounding claps to your music or any other video or audio project. Clap Machine features four full octaves of clap sounds and some simple controls for adjusting the sound of the samples. The included sounds are triggered via MIDI notes. Maximum polyphony is 32 notes.
Some of the included samples already have a good amount of natural reverb on them, however it’s possible to add an even bigger sense of space by using the built-in reverb module. Other parameters include a simple AR amplitude envelope for modifying the softness and the tail of the clap samples and a simple global volume control.
For more info about the clap samples which were used in Clap Machine, take a look at our article about Hands Make Sounds. It is a free sample library by 99Sounds, featuring a large variety of natural sounding snaps and claps which were recorded in various locations.
Looking at the GUI, perhaps the better option would be to have the full ADSR envelope for the amplitude, so that the included samples could be tweaked with higher precision. But even with a simple AR envelope, Clap Machine is a handy little tool if you want to quickly layer some hand claps over drum loops or other percussive elements of a track. The cool thing about this plugin is that you can create some really great natural sounding group claps by playing multiple notes at the same time!
