Free Devil Drummr Drum Sampler Released By Devil Sounds

Devil Soundz has introduced Devil Drummr, a very simple 7-slot drum sampler VSTi plugin for 32-bit Windows based host applications.

Devil Drummr is a very rudimentary drum sampler instrument. It can load up to seven WAV samples (comes with a set of seven factory sounds) and provides volume and pitch controls for each sample. The pitch adjustment range is only ±2 semitones, so it’s not possible to build any particularly crazy sounding pitch rolls using automation. The plugin didn’t have any issues loading longer WAV files, so it can be used for basic loop playback. The problem with loop playback in Devil Drummr, however, is that the instrument has a fixed volume decay envelope which will cause the volume of the loop to drop over time.

The biggest drawback feature-wise, though, is the lack of pan controls. All samples played with Devil Drummr will be positioned in dead center of the stereo image. In addition, the plugin features only a single stereo output, so it’s not possible to route the samples to different channels in your DAW’s mixer and adjust the pan settings there. Finally, the CPU hit is surprisingly high for such a simple plugin, reaching above 10% on our quad-core test machine.

The VSTi plugin version of the instrument will only work in 32-bit host applications on Windows, due to the fact that it was made with FlowStone. On the bright side, the included standalone version of the instrument (the EXE file in the downloaded archive) works on 64-bit Windows without any problems. Even though I’m definitely not a fan of the plugin version of Devil Drummr, the standalone app might come in handy for quick testing of drum sounds, or for certain live setups, in case you don’t want to use a DAW.

Devil Drummr is available for free download via Devil Soundz (5.94 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit VSTi plugin format for Windows, standalone version included, made with FlowStone).

  1. Oh hey, it’s a plugin by the guy(s) who made the worst rated reverb on another website, VOCAL REVERB (it’s spelled like that, not my fault). Tried looking it up after reading this but it seems it’s been removed. I downloaded it some time ago in an attempt to make a song using the worst rated plugins on another website and i must say that it’s the most useless plugin i’ve ever used. I don’t really understand the need of a patch saving functionality with only two knobs…

I don’t really see myself getting any use out of this one when Ableton has the Drum Rack with much more features.

I just hope these people don’t take their plugins seriously.
