LVC-Meter Is A FREE Spectrum Analyzer VST/AU Plugin

LVC-Audio has released LVC-Meter, a freeware audio metering utility in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats for digital audio workstations on Windows and OS X.

LVC-Meter is a versatile multi-mode audio metering tool based on the technology used in LVC-Audio’s previous plugins like Limited-Z (freeware) and Clipped-MAX. The plugin features a real-time frequency spectrum analyzer, a stereo vectorscope, and a waveform history view. It supports multiple metering modes like K-System metering, standard dBFS mode, and EBU mode. All metering modes feature true-peak monitoring to determine intersample peak levels. The plugin detects overs and informs the user when inter-sample peaking is present.

It’s worth noting that LVC-Meter isn’t just a metering tool. The plugin can be used to control the gain, stereo balance, and stereo width of the analyzed audio signal. Right-clicking the Gain and Balance control knobs will reveal a drop-down menu with the advanced controls for A/B testing and more precise fine-tuning.

In addition to its robust audio metering and analysis features, LVC-Meter also offers a highly customizable and intuitive user interface. The user can configure the spectrum analyzer display by adjusting the window type, the FFT size, and overlap. The interface is also freely resizable with adjustable colors. LVC-Meter sports an XML-based preset management system for saving and importing custom settings.

LVC-Audio is currently running a sale with up to 50% OFF in discounts on various products. The deal was extended until April 30.

LVC-Meter is available for free download via LVC-Audio. No signup required. The software is compatible with all major plugin hosts on PC and Mac. Both 32-bit and 64-bit hosts are supported. Please note that an iLok device is required to use the AAX plugin version of the software.

  1. This plugin is a real workhorse and can be customized. GUI is impressive with vast selection of options. My biggest gripe would be the fact how many settings are “hidden” under right-click menu. This makes setting up tedious and time consuming. Also LVC Meter adds 21.3 ms of latency, which is a bummer. GUI disappeared a few times while I was making adjustments. Resizable GUI sometimes misplaced available controls, when I changed it to default size. LVC Meter is still in beta, so one might hope developers will fix those issues.

I finally gave up on this plugin. As much as I wanted to like it, it was really confusing. I had no idea why there was a deviation in all three loudness measurements (short, momentary, integrated) compared to other well established brands: Youlean, TBProAudio, even recently added algorithm to SPAN. Values reported by LVC Meter were off by 2 LUFS. Perhaps a different standard was used. There was no info about it on the website or in the manual. I also had another situation where GUI just disappeared. I had to load the plugin again to “fix” it.
