Waves Audio announced that a new freebie will be released on February 15th, 2022. Interested users can sign up today to join the waiting list.
The company didn’t provide any additional info about the forthcoming freebie, apart from the following message: “On Tuesday, February 15th, we’re releasing a BRAND NEW surprise for EVERYONE using samples in their music.”
So, we know two things:
- This is going to be a brand new product (not a free re-release of an already existing product)
- It will be related to samples in some way.
So, I’m guessing this could be a sample pack or a more extensive sound library. And that’s quite surprising because Waves Audio is a company that specializes in audio software. Could they be expanding into sound design and the sample library market?
Another wild guess is that Waves Audio is releasing a sampler plugin. If that’s the case, they’ll probably release a free “lightweight” sampler first, followed by a commercial edition of the same software.
The third (and my least favorite) option is that Waves Audio is launching a sample subscription service. Sample subscription platforms are all the rage nowadays (case in point being the recent Komplete Now launch by Native Instruments), although I have to admit I’m not a massive fan of this trend.
Sure, there are some advantages to subscribing for a low monthly fee. But, I prefer a simple one-time purchase instead of paying for the same software forever like I’m stuck in some weird Groundhog Day time loop (looking at you, Adobe).

oni’m guessing either a sampler, or some sort of looperator or effectrix
nowadays, when they say samples, i don’t assume they mean one shots for drums, rather mostly likely they mean loops from samplepacks, etc. like samplab does as well

onBeat Magazine has released released a free sample pack put together for the new Waves CR8 sampler (but as the samples come in WAV format, you can fire them up in any sampler). The pack contains 3.8 GB of vocal sessions, drums, loops and sounds like 808s, ethnic instruments, synth stabs, basses and so on.
