So, what is Octavox? Octavox is an eight-voiced harmonizer which can take any input signal and spit out eight accompanying voices for the original signal. This is best served on melodic content, like vocals or leads, but it certainly does interesting things with drums.
The core interface of Octavox is straight to the point and is in a single tab. You have controls for the panning, level, delay, and pitch of each individual choice.
As such, you can run Octavox as a multitap delay or go wild and do some weird sonic experiments that stay in the same diatonic key.
The bottom of the interface houses the scale controls, with common scales and all twelve keys present in Western music present. These are plotted on the staff, allowing you to see where each voice is in relation to the diatonic key selected.
I’ve had Octavox myself for a number of years and find it works exceptionally well on hats and arpeggiated synths. You can get some truly out-there effects conjured up with melodic content, and thanks to the independent voice control, it’s easy to dial in exactly how you want.
You can also swap things on the fly thanks to the added MIDI control. Why stay constrained to a single key when you can modulate? Additionally, it can be used with MIDI for sound design purposes, giving new life to what might otherwise be a tired vocal chop or synth lead.
Octavox is available for Windows and Mac computers. Supported plugin formats are VST, VST3, AU, and AAX. It is a universal plugin, so Apple Silicon and Intel users can join in on the fun.
