Ultimate Vocal Remover is a free AI software tool to help you remove vocals from audio recordings and music.
There have been countless tools and plugins to debut in the last couple of years, leveraging AI to remove things like noise, vocals, and other elements from an audio source.
These are usually costly pieces of software as well. However, Ultimate Vocal Remover might solve your vocal removal needs.
This free piece of software is open-source and is the product of developers Anjok07 and aufr33. The interface is quick and simple to use, reminiscent of the more utilitarian interfaces you might see with something like PaulstretchX.
I tested Ultimate Vocal Remover and figured it out in a matter of minutes, as the software itself is pretty straightforward.
The workflow is simple. You load in your input file, specify an output file, and tweak your processing and MDX-Net models as desired. You can also tweak your batch settings, which is always handy with these AI-driven tools.
Once you’ve dialed in your settings, it is as simple as mashing the big button that says start processing to get the magic underway.
I am not a singer, so I rarely use vocal removal tools. However, I did try this on a few mixing projects I’ve done in the past and was fairly impressed with the results.
Sure, it probably isn’t as clean and tidy as some other results you might get from something like RipX. But it was usable material nonetheless. The fact that I could readily run it from a Windows desktop and Mac laptop was just icing on the cake.
UVR also benefits from leveraging GPU rendering, provided you can find a compatible graphical processor to take advantage of it. NVIDIA GPUs with CUDA cores should do the trick just fine, but CPU rendering is also a perfectly viable option.
UVR is free, with no real catches of any sort to speak of. Users can readily check out the GitHub project page and contribute to the project if desired.
UVR isn’t a plugin. It is a piece of software. However, it does run on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It does seem to run just fine on Apple Silicon devices. If you’d like to support the project, the team behind UVR is accepting donations.
